☆ Traditional Street performance ☆

e5a4a7e98193e88ab8e383bbe9ad9ae38195e38293
(This is the photo of one type of performer. Thanks Sayaka♪)

When you visit Eigamura, you can see one of Japanese traditional street performances.
One of them is “Nankin-Tamasudare”.
Because it is a traditional thing, it is very difficult to explain what kind of performance it is.
A performer makes many things with Tamasudare, ( Sayaka is holding it on the photo.)
It looks like a bomboo mat. ( It is a kind of a mat, many chopsticks are linked one by one.)
You will enjoy it even you don’t understand Japanese,
then if you would like to, you can try it with a performer.

You see so colouful costume on her!
Because performers needed to attract attention on the street,
they usually wore funny or colourful Kimono.
In Edo period ( Samurai period) there were many rules for Kimonos,
however for street performers, there were few rules.
They ususally traveled a lot, so they put on travelers’ Kimono,
then they decorated the Kimono to attract people.

In dramas, you may find them in New Year’s festival scean or party scean.
Please try finding many funny Kimonos on TV!

☆ The rank 〜Ko onna 〜 ☆

e5b08fe5a5b31

Ko onna means “Small Girl”, so she is a teenager or younger.
In Edo period, (or in Samurai stories) Ko onna means a young girl who works at a restaurant or a shop.
So you see an apron on her ( under the sash), and she wears the shorten Kimono.
In addition that, she ties back up her sleeves with a cord.
( I am sorry it is difficult to see the cord on the photo.)

The word “Ko onna” stands for ” Small Girl“,
so in dramas Ko onna is usually played by a short actress.
( It is typical image of Ko onna, however of course in those days there were Ko onnas who were tall, you know.)

In drama, you find her working in the restaurant or walking on the street with a big delivery.

Story

—-    A port –town, somewhere in Edo —-

Shiranui and two Ronins come into the town. They seem to look for someone.

Then they hide separately…

O-Kou comes out from the motel. She has just found out that her father has been killed by Kimento. At this stage she isn’t sure who Kimento is.

( She infiltrated the motel, wearing the uniform of the staff member.)

She leaves to find O-bugyo-sama to tell him what she has discovered.

However Shiranui stops her. His rank is much higher than O-Kou.

She must obey even she is in hurry.

Shiranui “What are you doing now?”

O-Kou   “Kato-aratame’s Shiranui!!”

Ronin A  “O-Kou!? Oh, Shigezo’s daughter!”

O-Kou   “ So what!?

Shiranui “ You’ve done a good job! You found out the secret of Kimento something your father wasn’t able to do. So it’s our job. You should tell me what you found.”

O-Kou   “This is the work of the City-Police. You don’t need to help.

Ronin B  “Quiet!”

Shiranui “O-Kou, we were asked to help to catch them by O-bugyo.”

O-Kou   “ You must be kidding!!”

Shiranui “ I’m serious. They are too strong for you guys.

Hey, be a good girl! Take us to them!”

O-Kou is in trouble, surrounded by them……

“ STOP!! “

A guy wearing a big hat comes out!

Shiranui “Who are you?”

A guy    “ Long time no see, Shiranui.”

A guy turns out to be O-bugyo.

O-Kou / Shiranui “O-bugyo-Sama.”

O-bugyo “We’ve already cordoned them off.”

Shiranui “ Oh, OK. Then we are helping you to catch them.”

O-bugyo “ We decline the offer.”

Siranui “ Why??

O-bugyo “ First, we must catch the leader of Kimento, to stamp the root of this evil out.”

Shiranui “What do you mean by that?

O-bugyo “ I meant YOU! Shiranui!”

O-Kou  “ So this is the leader of Kimento!!

O-bugyo “You guys abused the rights and intimidated the citizens. I absolutely condemn what you           have done.”

O-Kou   “ I wreak vengeance for my father!”

O-bugyo “ You must surrender yourself!”

Shiranui “ Stop talking at once! You, weak city police, and your big mouthes!

Shiranui” ( to Ronins) Kill them!”

-Swords fighting-

O-Kou, a girl with no sword fights against big men who use swords.

She took one short sword from Ronin B.

O-bugyo “ You are so strong!”

O-Kou  “My father taught me sword fighting.”

O-bugyo “Don’t lose focus though.

O-bugyo fights against them. Then Shiranui runs away, O-bugyo runs after them.

O-Kou  “STOP!”

Ronin B stops to fight against her.

O-kou is strong enough to fight against him.

Shiranui, Ronin A, and O-bugyo comes back to the stage.

Then Shiranui swings the sword at O-Kou’s stomach.

She tries to kill him, but she is mortally wounded, then falls down.

O-bugyo fights against them, One against three men….

He is in trouble, Ronin B stops him, then Shiranui is moving toward him to kill…then…

“Shiranui!!”

O-Kou wakes up and stops Shiranui, but he is too strong for her to stop.

However O-bugyo is strong enough to catch them all as well as knock out.

O-buyo  “ Are you OK, O-Kou?”

O-Kou  “ Yes. This helped me!”

She takes out the short metal truncheon.

O-bugyo  “Oh, It’s your father’s. He saved you.”

O-Kou   “ Yes….. O-bugyo-sama. Please let me help you to save citizens, like my father did.”

O-bugyo “ It will be hard work…..”

O-kou nodded with smile….

☆ Bird-Phobia ☆

dvc00160

Today I joined the filming for Omiyasan ( 『おみやさん』).
I had to be ready for the first filming by 8:00am, so that I went to the studio at 6:30am.

We went to Kamo-gawa ( river side).
After lunch, I played “the woman sitting by the river for eating lunch”.

So I had sandwiches and a canned-coffee.
During the camera rehearsal, I actually didn’t need to eat them, so I just held one sandwich in my hand and put the others in front of me….

Btw, I have “Bird-Phobia”.
I don’t know why, but I am always frightened when I see birds, even pigeons…
When I sat by the river, there were two pigeons walking in front of me.
I didn’t want to see them, but it is my job to act the charactor, I tried to pretend as if there was no problem.

When I was waiting for the shooting, one of the staff members came and told me that many kites were flying over me to get my sandwiches, so  told me to keep only one in my hand and put the others inside of my bag.

I was overcome with Fear !!

” WHAT!!  KITES!!  “

I wanted to shout and run away….
I told myself  ” You are an actress. You can act!!”

In second rehearsal, there were few kites flying over the river .
I was holding a sandwich in my hand, then……

! !  !   !!   !!!!  !  !!  !!!!  !   !  ! !!!!!

Suddenly one kite hit me from behind and grabbed the sandwich!!

I was too terrified to realized what had happened on me.

The kite dropped it into the river, then a few kites came to get it.
I couldn’t move at all, but only watched what they were doing.
Director hadn’t said to stop, so I tried to continue acting….

When the rehearsal was stopped, many staff members ran to me to help.
They asked me if I was OK, if I hadn’t got a wound.
Fortunately,  the sandwich wasn’t close to my face, I was OK.
However I could only say”OK, OK” to answer them becouse of big terror…

The kite have gone anywhere after getting food,
so that I was able to act by the river for the shooting….

I couldn’t stop shuddering after that…………

Hello ★ How are you??
It  was sunny day today, wonderful Sunday ♪

On weekends, there is a Likeness shop in Eigamura.
It is in the police box which is just in front of the tram.

He drew the likeness of me in kimono ( in the photo )!!
How nice he was ★☆

You see the letters under the likeness, it says O-Kyo-tyan.
This is my nickname when I play Machimusume.
And you see the smile in the letter 京.
He told me that he had a license to draw smile faces in Chinese letters,
and trip all over Japan to draw likenesses and the smile letters.

I put this on the wall in my room,
actually upper part of the mirror, this likeness makes me smile ♪

He drew many likenesses and put them on the wall in the police box,
so if you come on weekends, please visit and see them!

☆ Filming ☆

e4ba95e4b88ae7b584e383bbe799bee5a793e291a0

Hello ★

Today I joined the filming of 水戸黄門 MitoKomon ( Samurai drama).
The filming would be started at 8:00 am if it had been sunny.
Because the scene was located outside.
Even we had known that it would be rainny in the morning today,
we had to go to the studio for the first scene.
and it takes long time to prepare, I needed to go there before 6:00am.

When I arrived the building which has the rooms for actors, no one was there.
So I couldn’t ask anyone about today’s schedule.
(It was raining then…)
No one said it would be called off, I started to prepare.

Then it was still raining when the staff came, the first scene was postponed. I had to wait for next scene which would be inside and start around at noon.

I had waited about for 6 hours but it was well worth waiting for!!
The next scene I joined was really interesting!!
Many men fought each other ( not by the swords but their hands.)
Of course I didn’t join the fighting but just looking at them.

When you watch fighting scene on TV, you may think many people are fighting all together. However everything is well planned, and filmed one by one.
So that it takes long long time to film.

Few women join the fighting scene, ( because normally men fight but not women) I was really luckey to join this filming.

Ciao!
Kyoko
